The way we are portrayed on not just reality tv but television shows period these days are disgusting. Black people are seen as rachet, loud, dull, obnoxious and over all irrational beings. Why? Why aren't there more than a few images on television of positive role models for the youth? In this day and age, success is measured in dollar signs and youth aspire to be like a former stripper who made it out or an ex trap star turned rap star. I know that's not all that we are so why is that all that we see? It assassinates our character as beautiful, well rounded, creative people who are productive and responsible members of society. These materialistic mirages of success are overshadowing the importance of education. Why spend years in college when you can come up on a get rich quick scheme and make fast money right? We're preaching one thing to our kids and peers yet we indulge in the media's perpetuation of these modern day blaxploitation images. Our excuse is "It's entertaining." Yea? Entertainment for who? Verbal and physical altercations take place at least once in every episode. On a subconscious level, how healthy can that be for us as adults let alone children? Whatever happened to shows that made you feel good and taught you something? Or is that kind of entertainment outdated? The Cosby show will forever be one of my favorite television shows of all time, it truly is a classic. I fear for the youth today for not having a positive image on screen to idealize and aspire them as The Cosby Show has done for me. Please think about this, beautiful people, see the bigger picture, stand up for something and be part of the solution. Read, comment , and share please. Peace & Love.
